James was born on January 4, 1947, in Panama City, Florida to Ms. Millie Calbum. He joined The United States Army on May 20, 1966. On September 27, 1969, he married Norma Elena Griffith of Colon, Panama, at Fort Davis, Panama. They moved to many locations, foreign and domestic, due to his commitment to the United States Army. They moved to Junction City, Kansas in 1984 and have lived there since his retirement.
He earned many awards and decorations for his commitment and work ethic during his time in service. Those honors include but are not limited to: The Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Army Service Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (1), and Combat Infantryman Badge.
After his retirement from the United States Army, James worked in Civil Service on Fort Riley, Kansas, for over 20 years.
James is survived by his loving family: two sons, Darrel Edward Green of Wichita, KS, and Derrick Vincent (Misty) Green of Shawnee, KS; one granddaughter, Makenna Green of Wichita, KS; twin grand-sons, Xander Philip Green and Thayer James Green of Shawnee, KS; two sisters, Delores J Ones and Lucille Rowser; and a host of loving family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Norma Elena Green and his mother, Millie Calbum.
